A true cyst is a collection of fluid surround by a true wall of the same tissue of the organ the cyst is present in. Pseudo meaning false cyst is collection of fluid surrounded by tissues of different adjacent inflamed organs to contain this fluid within it.
Hence, a pancreatic pseudocyst is a collection of pancreatic juices that leaks usually after severe pancreatic inflammation (Pancreatitis), and is only contained by a rim of inflammation formed by the surrounding organs.
Pseudoscyst are treated surgically usually through minimally invasive (Endoscopic or Laparoscopic) if it persists beyond 6 weeks and is larger than 4 cm in size. It is usually drained into stomach or Jejunum (small bowel) depending on its location. These procedures are done at GBMC and Jordan Hospital with great experience.
