Stomach tumors can be benign, slowly growing like Leiomyomas or GIST (GI stromal tumors). These usually are treated with partial resection or just removing the tumor itself if small. Malignant tumors most commonly gastric cancer is a different story. If discovered early, it carries a high chance for cure. Unfortunately, most of the time, they present and become symptomatic in advanced stages. Imaging especially CT scan can detect spread outside the stomach and surroundings. Laparoscopic staging is helpful if imaging did not reveal any evidence of spread, and ultimately partial or total stomach removal can be done with small incisions (Laparoscopically). Other tumors like lymphoma, malignant GIST are less common.
